LG G3 OLED Best Settings for HDR, Gaming and Movies
Configure an LG G3 Gallery OLED for SDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision, gaming and PC use with model-size and MLA caveats.

Best starting point
Use Filmmaker Mode or Cinema for SDR/HDR10, Cinema for Dolby Vision, and Game Optimizer for gaming on the 2023 LG G3. The G3 generation introduced Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology in particular sizes and markets, but there is no special “MLA calibration value.” Size and region must be checked before describing a specific unit.
SDR setup
Set SDR OLED Pixel Brightness for the room. The G3's HDR capability is not a reason to run news, desktop windows or other static SDR material at maximum sustained output. Keep white balance and color-management values at default unless this panel is measured.
Use Filmmaker Mode or Cinema for films. For sports, test motion processing independently from color and brightness. OLED Motion Pro can improve perceived motion clarity on supported signals while reducing brightness and potentially causing flicker.
HDR10 films
Open an HDR10 source and start with Filmmaker Mode or Cinema. Dynamic Tone Mapping On changes how the TV adapts the signal; Off gives a less dynamic mapping. Compare real content in your room rather than relying on a screenshot or a value copied from another panel size.
Small highlights and full-screen brightness are different workloads. Measurements from a review must include pattern size and mode to support a comparison.
Dolby Vision
Configure Dolby Vision separately. Cinema is the accuracy-oriented baseline in controlled light; Cinema Home is the brighter ambient-light preference. HDR10 DTM and HGiG instructions should not be pasted into a Dolby Vision movie setup.
Gaming
Start in Game Optimizer. Confirm the source reports the intended HDR, refresh and VRR state. For HDR10 HGiG, select HGiG before running PS5, Xbox or Windows calibration. Adjust a game's own HDR controls afterward.
VRR may disable or modify other processing choices. ALLM only requests low latency, and 120 Hz only applies when the source and game output it. Avoid claims that a television setting alone guarantees a frame rate.
PC use
Use the PC input type for desktop text clarity and verify output at the GPU. Keep source and display range matched. Use moderate SDR brightness, display sleep and varied content for productivity. A brighter-generation panel still accumulates wear from persistent bright interfaces.
G3-specific caveats
Do not describe all G3 sizes as identical MLA implementations without checking the regional product. Firmware can also alter menus and protection behavior. Service-menu instructions from G1 or G2 are not evidence for a G3 path.
OLED Control can change only supported, exposed TV state. It cannot identify a panel's measured calibration, guarantee service access or configure a console/GPU.

G3 and MLA expectations
The G3's Micro Lens Array implementation can increase measured output on supported sizes, but “MLA settings” are not a separate calibration recipe. Screen size, panel sample, mode, window size and firmware still matter. Use G3-specific measurements as context, not menu values.
For SDR, begin with Filmmaker/Cinema/ISF and set OLED Pixel Brightness for room. Gallery wall placement can increase reflections; control them before maximizing sustained output.
HDR10 and Dolby Vision
Start HDR10 material before comparing DTM Off/On. Increased peak capability does not remove tone mapping or make every bright mode accurate. Inspect faces, midtones and highlight texture.
Dolby Vision uses separate Cinema/Cinema Home profiles. Cinema Home is a brighter room adaptation. Do not transfer HDR10 HGiG or DTM instructions into Dolby Vision film.
G3 gaming
Use Game Optimizer and verify 4K120, VRR and ALLM. G3 is not a C4/G4 144 Hz guide. Select HGiG before PS5/Xbox/Windows calibration; set game controls last.
Near-black VRR flicker can still occur on a brighter OLED because it is related to variable frame intervals and dark gamma behavior. Stabilize frame time and compare fixed refresh. Do not crush shadows to hide it.
Gallery installation and care
Follow LG mounting/ventilation guidance. Picture settings do not compensate for blocked clearances. Keep OLED Care, Logo Brightness, Screen Move and standby compensation enabled. The G3's higher output does not eliminate cumulative static exposure.
For eARC, establish stable TV speakers, PCM and then advanced formats. Gallery installation can make cable access difficult, so test certified cables before final wall routing.
G3 FAQ
Does MLA require higher OLED Pixel Brightness?
No. SDR remains room-dependent; HDR mode manages its own output.
Can G2 white balance be copied?
No. Panel-specific measurements are not transferable.
Why is Game Optimizer less bright than Cinema Home?
Different processing/tone mapping and latency priorities. Calibrate the game path independently.
Is manual Pixel Cleaning needed after bright HDR?
No routine manual cycle; allow automatic maintenance and follow LG guidance.
G3 verification checklist
Test SDR at daytime and nighttime output, HDR10 with both a face and small highlight, Dolby Vision Cinema/Cinema Home, a stable 120 Hz game, VRR in a dark checkpoint and eARC after standby. Note active mode and source. A result from one signal should not be generalized to another.
If a fixed tint or band remains across internal menus and independent sources, document normal-content visibility for LG. Do not use copied white balance or repeated manual compensation to hide a possible panel-uniformity issue.
Confirm the G3 size before applying review evidence
The 55-, 65- and 77-inch G3 variants are the models most commonly associated with LG's MLA-based Brightness Booster Max implementation; the 83-inch version should not be assumed to share the same optical stack or measured peak output. Regional suffixes can also change tuner and feature details. Check the complete model number on the rear label or in TV information, then use measurements for that size and mode. A peak-brightness result from a small HDR window does not predict sustained full-field desktop brightness, where ABL remains relevant.
For wall-mounted daytime viewing, solve direct reflections and ambient light before selecting Cinema Home or enabling more aggressive tone mapping. Those choices can improve visibility but alter the creator-intended luminance relationship. At night, return to the separately stored Cinema or Filmmaker context instead of repeatedly changing one mode. This preserves a reproducible comparison and prevents an ambient-light workaround from becoming an unexplained permanent calibration change.
The flush Gallery installation also makes later HDMI replacement inconvenient. Before final cable routing, verify each planned 4K120 source, VRR state, eARC return path and standby wake cycle. Picture controls cannot correct marginal cable bandwidth or an AVR handshake failure.
