LG G1 OLED Best Settings for SDR, HDR and Gaming

Best starting point

For the 2021 LG G1, start with Filmmaker Mode or Cinema for SDR and HDR10, Cinema for Dolby Vision, and Game Optimizer for games. LG's OLED evo branding identifies the G1 generation and panel system; it does not provide a universal calibration value or justify copying settings from another G1.

Picture settings are stored by input, app, signal type and mode. Configure SDR, HDR10 and Dolby Vision while each is active.

SDR setup

Choose Filmmaker Mode or Cinema, then set OLED Pixel Brightness for the actual room. A Gallery TV in a bright living space may need a different SDR level from the same model in a dark theater. Wall placement and reflections affect perceived contrast but do not change the encoded signal.

Leave white balance and color-management controls at their defaults unless a meter is measuring this panel. Shared values can introduce a color error. Use motion interpolation only to address a preference; leave it off for unaltered film cadence.

HDR10 movies

Open HDR10 content and start with Filmmaker Mode or Cinema. Dynamic Tone Mapping On adapts the HDR10 presentation scene by scene or frame by frame; Off uses the mode's less adaptive mapping. Compare both with familiar content. Do not infer accuracy from apparent brightness alone.

Avoid treating HGiG as a movie setting. It belongs to source-led HDR gaming.

Dolby Vision

Configure Dolby Vision separately. Cinema is the safer dark-room baseline. Cinema Home is a different, brighter presentation for ambient light. HDR10 Dynamic Tone Mapping settings do not map directly to Dolby Vision.

Gaming setup

Use Game Optimizer and check the console's detected capabilities. Enable high-refresh output and VRR only for supported games. ALLM requests a low-latency mode but does not create frames or enable VRR by itself.

For HDR10 games, select HGiG first, then run the PS5, Xbox or Windows HDR calibration. Configure game-specific patterns afterward. If you choose Dynamic Tone Mapping for visibility, treat it as a preference and reconsider the earlier calibration.

Game Optimizer can restrict other processing controls. A greyed-out option is often an expected mode limitation, not a reason to use the service menu.

PC and static-content use

Use the PC input type when text clarity is important and verify resolution, refresh, HDR and range at the computer. Matching source/display range matters more than forcing a named option at one end. Use moderate SDR output, hide static UI where practical and allow the display to sleep.

The G1 does not inherit newer G-series capabilities merely because it shares the Gallery name. Check the 2021 model documentation and current firmware for available controls.

OLED Control can operate settings exposed by a supported TV. It does not alter GPU output, calibrate a panel or unlock later-model hardware.

Build G1 profiles instead of copying numbers

The G1's OLED evo positioning does not create one correct OLED Pixel Brightness value. Begin with SDR Filmmaker Mode, Cinema or ISF Expert and adjust sustained output for the installed room. A flush wall location may increase the impact of windows and lamps; manage reflections and seating before driving the panel at maximum output. Maintain LG's installation clearances and do not treat picture settings as thermal-management controls.

Reset only the active picture mode. Leave black level, white balance and color management alone unless a pattern or meter identifies an error. Warm color temperature in an accurate mode may look unfamiliar after years of a cool preset, but that adaptation is not evidence that copied two-point values are needed.

HDR10, Dolby Vision and SDR are independent. Start each signal before configuring it. For HDR10 films, compare Dynamic Tone Mapping Off and On with the same scene. For Dolby Vision, use Cinema in controlled light or Cinema Home when the room requires a brighter presentation. Do not apply HGiG to Dolby Vision movies.

Gaming on the 2021 Gallery model

The G1 supports the 2021 Game Optimizer workflow, 4K120, VRR and ALLM on its documented HDMI inputs. Verify the console's detected capabilities directly. A receiver can be the limiting link even when the television supports the requested format, so establish the source-to-TV connection first.

For HDR10 games, select HGiG in Game Optimizer and then run the platform calibration. This order matters: the source needs to know the display path chosen for gameplay. Calibrate individual games last. Dynamic Tone Mapping remains an available preference for users who prioritize visibility, but it changes highlight relationships and should not be described as a free brightness upgrade.

The C1/G1 generation received 4K120 Dolby Vision gaming through firmware. Update through LG's public channel and verify Xbox 4K TV Details. Dolby Vision gaming uses its own mode and should not inherit HDR10 HGiG assumptions. If the screen drops, simplify the HDMI chain and add high-bandwidth features individually.

PC, motion and Gallery-room trade-offs

For PC use, select native 4K, PC input labeling and RGB or 4:4:4. Match video range, prefer OS scaling and avoid using sharpness to compensate for a non-native resolution. WOLED subpixels differ from conventional monitors; close-range text may retain some colored fringing despite correct chroma.

Film stutter is visible because OLED responds quickly. Real Cinema addresses 24p cadence, while TruMotion interpolation changes the motion itself. Start off, then add a restrained setting only if pans are uncomfortable. OLED Motion Pro can improve motion resolution in supported G1 modes at the cost of output and possible flicker.

A Gallery installation often shares a bright multipurpose room. For news or sports, static logos and scoreboards create a different exposure pattern from films. Choose a comfortable sustained SDR level and leave Logo Brightness and Screen Move active. Do not disable protection to chase a showroom impression.

Validate the finished G1 setup

Test one familiar example in SDR, HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Check a 120 Hz game with VRR both enabled and disabled, and verify a direct PC text pattern if the TV serves as a monitor. Note source output and active mode for every comparison. If a dark scene slowly dims, reproduce the same timestamp and distinguish elapsed static-scene behavior from immediate large-area brightness limiting.

Allow the G1 to enter standby normally after use so automatic compensation can complete. Manual Pixel Cleaning is not daily maintenance. Service-menu TPC/GSR changes are excluded from a safe settings guide because they alter protection behavior and can complicate warranty support. A carefully separated set of profiles produces a more reliable G1 than any universal table.
