Best starting point

On the 2022 LG G2, choose Filmmaker Mode or Cinema for SDR/HDR10, Cinema for Dolby Vision, and Game Optimizer for gaming. The Gallery design and G2 hardware can produce a different measured result from a C-series set, but they do not make fixed internet calibration values transferable to your panel.

SDR for the room

Use Filmmaker Mode or Cinema. Set OLED Pixel Brightness for sustained comfort rather than maximum output. A flush wall installation still needs the ventilation and clearances specified by LG; picture settings are not a substitute for correct installation.

Keep white balance and color-management controls at default without measurements. Disable enhancements you do not need, but evaluate compression cleanup on the source that needs it rather than applying one rule to all streaming video.

Motion controls are subjective. Off preserves film cadence without interpolation. Add only enough processing to address judder or sports motion you actually find distracting.

HDR10

Configure HDR while HDR10 content is playing. Filmmaker Mode or Cinema is the neutral start. Dynamic Tone Mapping On can raise apparent visibility and adapt the image; Off provides a less dynamic presentation. Compare both in the intended room. Do not use another review's peak-brightness measurement as a menu value.

Dolby Vision

Use Dolby Vision Cinema in a controlled room. Cinema Home can be useful under ambient light, but it is a distinct rendering choice. Dolby Vision does not use the HDR10 HGiG workflow for normal films.

Console and PC games

Select Game Optimizer before running HDR calibration. For HGiG, choose it on the TV, run the source calibration, and then configure the game's own controls. This sequence lets the source render for the display without blindly stacking display-side Dynamic Tone Mapping.

Enable VRR only when supported by the source and title. ALLM, VRR and 120 Hz are distinct capabilities. Check the console's status page and the game's selected performance mode.

For Windows, confirm the active resolution and refresh rate in Advanced Display, then use Windows HDR Calibration if HDR is part of the workflow. On macOS, available HDR and refresh modes depend on the Mac and connection path.

Desktop care

Use the PC input type when desktop chroma clarity is required. Match video range at both ends, keep static SDR work at a moderate brightness and use display sleep. The TV's OLED protections are appropriate for normal use; a high-end Gallery model is not immune to uneven wear.

Firmware and region can change labels, restrictions and Game Optimizer layout. OLED Control can operate supported TV controls but cannot change model hardware, source bandwidth or panel calibration.

Sources

G2 setup by signal and room

Start with SDR Filmmaker Mode, Cinema or ISF Expert and reset only that profile. Set OLED Pixel Brightness for the actual room, viewing distance and content. The G2's Gallery design and heat-management implementation can support a different measured result from C2, but a review's peak measurement is not a value to enter into a menu. Large bright areas, panel size and duration all affect output.

Keep black level, contrast and color controls at their mode defaults unless a pattern shows clipping or a meter supports calibration. Reflection control often produces a larger practical improvement than extra sustained brightness. Preserve the ventilation and mounting conditions in LG's instructions.

Configure HDR10 while HDR10 is active. Compare Dynamic Tone Mapping Off and On at a fixed timestamp and choose knowingly. Dolby Vision Cinema and Cinema Home form a different path; HDR10 HGiG settings do not transfer to Dolby Vision films. Apps and HDMI inputs can retain separate modes, so document where each adjustment was made.

Console and Windows workflow

Select Game Optimizer before calibrating a console. Verify 4K120, ALLM and VRR separately: one does not imply the others. Connect directly while diagnosing. Add a receiver or soundbar after the picture path works, because an intermediary may alter advertised capabilities.

For HGiG, choose the TV option first, rerun PS5, Xbox or Windows calibration, and adjust the game last. Avoid copied click counts because panel, mode and tone-map state vary. If HGiG appears dark, confirm that the source was recalibrated in that state and that the game actually follows HGiG guidance. Dynamic Tone Mapping can be preferred for visibility, but it is a different rendering choice.

At a Windows PC, check Advanced Display for 3840×2160 and 120 Hz, request RGB/4:4:4, match range, then run Windows HDR Calibration if HDR is required. For ordinary static work, SDR is often simpler and more predictable. The G2 can be a capable display, but its Gallery form does not eliminate cumulative static-content wear.

Audio and motion checks

Use the labeled eARC port for a sound system. Establish stable TV-speaker playback, then PCM over eARC, then advanced bitstream formats. Update TV and receiver firmware and use a certified cable. If Atmos disappears only after standby, test a full cold-start sequence and simplify CEC devices before resetting the television.

For films, Real Cinema handles compatible 24p cadence. OLED still exposes low-frame stutter due to fast response. Add only restrained TruMotion if desired; high interpolation changes film character and can create artifacts. Do not assume C1/G1 black-frame-insertion controls exist identically on the 2022 generation.

Protection, panel care and evidence

Keep Screen Move, Logo Brightness and automatic compensation active. Automatic brightness limiting in a large white scene differs from gradual static-scene dimming. Diagnose the timeline rather than calling every luminance change “ABL.” If a long dark scene dims, replay the timestamp, compare an internal app and inspect energy controls before drawing a firmware conclusion.

Let the G2 enter standby so short compensation can run. Use LG's manual Pixel Cleaning only for a persistent issue under the documented conditions. Repeating it after every session is not preventive maintenance. Avoid service-menu TPC/GSR changes; they alter protective behavior rather than calibrating color.

Finish by testing SDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision, a stable 120 Hz game, VRR, PC text and eARC independently. Save model size, firmware and active modes. This evidence makes later troubleshooting far more accurate than memory or a copied settings screenshot.
